Iran moves its capital closer to the Persian Gulf: Pezeshkian

Iran’s capital is planned to be moved to the south of the country, closer to the Persian Gulf coast, the country’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, announced this, according to the Iranian news agency Fars.

According to the Iranian president, it is impossible to continue leaving Tehran as the capital for several reasons, including economic ones.

“As the capital of the country, Tehran faces problems for which we have no other solution than to move the very center of the capital. It is impossible to develop the country by continuing the current trend. If we want to continue bringing resources to Tehran from the south and the sea, then convert them into products and send them back to the south for export, this will increasingly reduce our competitiveness.” – Pezeshkian was quoted as saying by Sputnik Armenia.

According to Pezeshkian, once the election is over, all government departments will be moved to the new capital, after which Tehran residents will have the opportunity to move in.
