Iran threats: Trump calls for military planes for protection

Donald Trump’s re-election campaign has called for the use of military aircraft and vehicles to protect the former president during his campaign in recent weeks. The New York Times and the Washington Post reported this.

The request comes after two recent assassination attempts on the Republican presidential candidate. It also comes after Trump’s campaign said last month that U.S. intelligence officials had briefed the former president about alleged Iranian threats to kill him.

A spokesman for the US Secret Service, responsible for protecting presidential candidates, said that “the former president receives the highest level of protection”, but confirmed that the Trump campaign had asked for more.

“The Secret Service will remain vigilant and continue to adjust and enhance its protective measures as necessary to mitigate evolving threats,” the spokesperson said.

US President Joe Biden told reporters that he approved of Trump’s security at the level of a sitting president. He also noted that if Trump’s request reaches this level, it should be granted.

Trump campaign officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

According to the New York Times, the Trump campaign has contacted White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients and acting Secret Service official Ronald Roe to request military funds to protect the Republican candidate. , who will face US Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election on November 5. .
