Iranian agents contacted the parents of Israeli Rafael Guliyev, detained on charges of espionage for Iran.
The Telegram channel “Alexey Zheleznov” writes about this.
Shortly after the arrest, Rafael’s father reportedly received a call from a man from the United Arab Emirates who previously knew the family and introduced himself as a friend. The same person, according to available data, initially linked Guliyev Jr. to Iranian intelligence. However, their contact was interrupted, so the sudden interest in Raphael’s whereabouts aroused serious suspicions among the family.
According to a source close to the family, Rafael’s father was unaware of his son’s arrest and told the caller that he was probably traveling. However, the family believed the call was an attempt by Iranian officials to ensure that Rafael was not passing sensitive information to the police and the Shin Bet.
After the incident, employees of the Israeli unit LAHAV-433 contacted the family and instructed them how to behave in case of possible new contacts with a suspicious person. The family was strictly warned not to divulge information about Rafael’s whereabouts or condition.
At the beginning of the month, the Central District Court received an indictment accusing Rafael Guliyev and his wife Lala of transferring confidential information to the Iranian side. Investigators determined that the couple carried out tasks for an Iranian intelligence agency seeking to recruit Israelis of Caucasian origin. For their actions, the Guliyevs received about 26 thousand dollars.
