U.S. intelligence believes Iranian hackers stole internal documents from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign and sent them to media outlets and people associated with President Joe Biden, U.S. intelligence agencies said in a joint statement Wednesday.
The statement was issued on behalf of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Cybersecurity Infrastructure Agency.
“In late June and early July, Iranian cyber actors sent emails to individuals associated with President Biden’s campaign. These emails contained excerpts of electronic documents stolen from Trump’s campaign headquarters.” – follows from the statement.
According to US intelligence agencies, there is no evidence that the recipients of these letters responded in any way. At the same time, the departments stressed that hacking groups associated with Iran have “continued attempts since June to send US media materials for internal use” related to Trump’s headquarters.
