Iraqi woman returns home after 10 years of kidnapping by ISIS

The Israeli army announced the rescue of Fawzia Amin Sido, a Yazidi woman of Iraqi origin who had been kidnapped ten years ago and, since then, has remained in the Gaza Strip detained by a Hamas militiaman with links to the jihadist group Islamic State (IS).

In a statement, Israeli forces explained that militiaman dies during Gaza warperhaps following an Israeli bombing, and the woman then took the opportunity to flee. A few months ago, her father recognized her in an interview on Kurdish television in which he explained that “a Palestinian came. He is the father of my children. He told me that I had to obey him and we got married.” His appearance on television was key to his location.

“In a complex operation coordinated between Israel, the United States and other international actors, was recently rescued during a secret mission from the Gaza Strip via the Kerem Shalom crossing,” the army said, adding that she was then transferred to Jordan and, finally, in Iraq, where his family is.

Iraqi Yazidi activist Nadia Murad, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize winner and founder of the NGO Nadia’s Initiative, which helps Yazidi women who were sex slaves of ISIS in Syria and Iraq, said on her official account X that “this Yazidi girl was kidnapped by ISIS in 2014″. “After the fall of the caliphate in Iraq and Syria (in 2017 and 2019 respectively), ISIS transferred it to Gaza. She is not the only one detained in Gaza by ISIS. “Over the past ten years, the Iraqi authorities and the international community Yazidi women and girls were not rescued captives in Gaza, Syria and other parts of the region,” he said.

A few hours earlier, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced that it had received kidnapped Yezidi Fawzia Amin Sido, “who was released thanks to the joint efforts of the Foreign Ministry and the National Intelligence Service, in coordination with state embassies -United in Baghdad and Amman and the Jordanian authorities, after more than four months of effort and follow-up.” His father had assured

The young woman, according to the ministry, was kidnapped by “IS terrorists” and transferred to several countries before being released”, without specifying where she was. The Israeli army published two photos where we can see a woman with her face erased in a place that resembles the Kerem Shalom crossing in direction of Gaza, where trucks of humanitarian aid have been accumulating for months due to distribution difficulties in the territory, subject to constant attacks by Israel.
