At the beginning of the school year, the school asked us for a certificate of school insurance. Should we sign a new contract?
Compulsory activities included in the student’s schedule (classes, physical education and sports, etc.) do not require specific insurance to be able to attend. However, all optional activities offered by the establishment (dining room, morning or afternoon reception, cultural outings, green class, etc.) require the presentation of a school insurance certificate.
Therefore, this is essential for the child to participate in all the activities of his or her school, college or high school.
Two certificates
School insurance covers two main guarantees: the child’s civil liability for material or physical damage caused to others, and injuries suffered by him or herself or without an identified perpetrator. Some insurers include extensions – extracurricular activities, vacations, theft or breakage of equipment, cyberbullying.
There’s no need to subscribe to one if you have coverage elsewhere. Parents’ home insurance, which typically includes extended liability to family members living under the same roof, provides the first layer of coverage.
Combined with the life insurance policy or the individual accident insurance policy that covers the child, it acts as school insurance. You must present both certificates to the establishment to prove that the child is insured.
