The City Hall of Íscar (Valladolid), in coordination with the family of the deceased, paid tribute this Saturday to the memory of the cyclist Estela Domínguez, daughter of the Iscarian professional cyclist Juan Carlos Domínguez and Yolanda García and who was killed by a vehicle .
The mayor of the municipality, José Andrés Sanz, together with the municipality, family, friends, neighbors and members of different cycling clubs, accompanied Estela’s parents during this event, during which a steel sculpture was been revealed, designed by his parents, which is shaped like the letter “E”, with which his name beganand it also simulates her silhouette, with her braid and climbing on her bike.
The monolith is located on Juan Carlos Domínguez Avenue, named in 2002 in thanks to the local cyclist for being an ambassador of his hometown and for his victories during his most professional stage (1995-2006), a time during from which in 2002 he achieved, among other prizes, a stage victory in the Giro d’Italia, whose pink jersey was offered by the cyclist to the town of Íscar, as we can currently see at the town hall.
The sculpture wishes to keep alive the memory of Estela, granddaughter and daughter of the Iscarians, who tragically lost her life in a road accident on February 9, 2023, while exercising on a bikesince she was the heir to her father’s cycling tradition and career.
