ISIS claims responsibility for Solingen knife attack

On August 23, a terrible incident occurred in the city of Solingen, located in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which shocked Germany and attracted the attention of the world community. Late in the afternoon, an unknown man attacked a group of people with a knife, resulting in the death of three people and wounding eight others, five of whom are in serious condition.

“Bild” writes about this.

The next day, the terrorist organization ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack. A statement released through its news channel “Amaq” claimed that the attacker acted as a “soldier of the Islamic State” and carried out the attack in response to the “suffering of Muslims in Palestine.” This information caused great alarm among the German authorities and increased fears of possible new attacks.

According to German media, a witness who was near the scene reported that the attacker shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the attack. This confirms the assumption that the motives of the crime were religious in nature and were probably associated with radical Islamist views. One of the victims said that she knew the attacker and had seen him before in one of the local mosques. This statement may help the police in further investigations and identification of the culprit.

The offender remains at large for the time being, despite an active search by law enforcement. The Special Operations Command (SEK) reportedly stormed one of the refugee accommodation units in an attempt to arrest the suspect. As a result of the operation, a Syrian was detained, but his involvement in the attack has not yet been confirmed.

The situation in Solingen is causing serious concern, especially in the context of the increasing level of terrorist threats in Europe. This incident once again raises questions about the need to strengthen security measures and counter radicalisation among certain groups of the population.

The German public and authorities are expressing their condolences to the families of the dead and injured, as well as their concern about possible new attacks. The attack in Solingen was another reminder that the threat of terrorism remains urgent and that the fight against extremism requires constant attention and decisive action.
