Israel and Syria, despite official hostility, have found a hidden channel of interaction in the security sphere.
“Today in Israel” writes about this.
It is argued that one of the objectives of this coordination is to limit Iran’s influence in southern Syria, in particular in the regions of Daraa and Quneitra.
A central role in this cooperation is played by Major General Louis al-Ali, head of the intelligence unit of the Syrian army, whose zone of influence extends to the southern provinces. According to sources, al-Ali provides Israel with data on the movements of pro-Iran armed groups.
This intelligence allows Israel to conduct targeted strikes against Iranian threats and even conduct small-scale operations inside Syrian territory aimed at containing the Iranian presence.
It is not just Israel that benefits from the interaction. According to sources, Major General al-Ali is using coordination with Israel to strengthen his position in the Syrian security forces and increase his influence, including in relations with the Syrian Air Force. In this way, the Syrian authorities maintain control of the situation, while demonstrating that they are capable of containing Iranian ambitions on their territory.
Earlier, Kursor reported that Israel was building a defense line in another direction.
Israel has begun construction of a new defense line along the Alpha Line separating the Golan Heights from Syria.
Kursor also reported that Israel is issuing an ultimatum to Syria about supplying weapons to Hezbollah.
Israel has sent a strong warning to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad if he does not stop supplying Hezbollah with weapons from Syria.
