The Israeli plan for the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza demonstrated its first failures shortly after launch on Tuesday. Yesterday, the Palestinians are hungry in one of the distribution centers created in the south of the Enclave and Israeli soldiers, shot down to control the situation, causing at least three dead – according to the Gazati government – and 47 wounded – according to the UN.
The so -called Gaza humanitarian fund, responsible for the implementation of the plan, said on Wednesday that the distribution of assistance continues, after temporarily suspended it “out of Tuesday”. The agency said in detail that two of the distribution centers work today and still distributed about 14,550 food packages, which can feed more than five people for three and a half days, according to the statement.
Chaos and panic scenes have called into question the distribution system, which was already widely criticized by the United Nations. Yesterday, IDF said that they made “warning shots” outside the distribution center, but today Gas denied that he shot the Palestinians and that he wounded among those who came to get help. “Not a single beneficiary was injured, not a single life was lost, and all the available food was distributed without interference,” he said in his statement.
“What we saw on Tuesday is a very clear example of the danger of food distribution in the circumstances in which the humanitarian fund is engaged in gas,” said the head of the United Nations on Human Rights in the Palestinian territories, Adit Sangay. He also explained that most of the Gaza population cannot access the GHF distribution zone in the southern part of the strip where events occurred on Tuesday.
In total, four distribution centers were installed in the lane. According to the map published by IDF, three of the centers are located in the western zone of Rafach, not far from the Mediterranean Sea, and another in the center of the strip, closer to the division of Israel. In most of the enclave territory there are no distribution points, and this is one of the main criticism of this plan, since this will force the Gaza population to travel long distances, in the middle of explosions and with difficulties in logistics from the absence of vehicles, fuel, etc.
After about 80 days of absolute blocking imposed on the lane, some main reserves appeared last week, but in amounts are significantly lower than the needs of more than two million inhabitants who are on the verge of hunger. This week, the Israeli authorities allowed to enter some humanitarian aid trucks, which are distributed among the UN agencies, such as the World Food or Unicef program.
The UN agencies and its partners accumulated a total of 17,000 metric tons of supplies, which is enough for the entire population of the strip for a period of three to four months, and they repeatedly asked him to introduce and spread it.
