The American television channel ABC News, citing American officials, claims that small-scale Israeli ground operations in Lebanon may have already begun or may begin in the near future.
“Small-scale operations or ‘border movements’ in Lebanon to destroy Hezbollah positions right on the border have already begun or will begin soon,” – says the message.
Officials told the television station that it appears Israel has not yet made a final decision on the ground operation, but is ready for it. The scale of the operation, if it were to begin, would be limited, these officials said. A key goal, they say, will be the return of displaced residents of northern Israel to their homes. However, to achieve this goal, they claim, the elimination of Hezbollah’s secretary general is necessary. Hassan Nasrullah It won’t be enough.
Since last week, the Israeli Air Force has been carrying out massive strikes against Hezbollah targets in different areas of Lebanon. There were also several targeted airstrikes in Beirut, as a result of which senior Hezbollah commanders, including Nasrullah, were eliminated. To date, the Israeli military has reported attacks on several thousand targets. Observers note that Israel has not attacked Hezbollah with such intensity since the Second Lebanon War in 2006.
