Israel launches powerful attack on Beirut against Hezbollah leaders to kill Hassan Nasrallah’s successor

Israel launched a powerful bombardment this midnight in the south of Beirut against the leaders of Hezbollah and with the main objective of killing Hachem Safieddine, cousin of the murdered leader of the Shiite group, Hassan Nasrallahand one of the main favorites to succeed him in his position.

The strong wave of attacks, which resonated throughout the Lebanese capital, caused the collapse of a Police station, a supermarket and several residential buildings from the Dahye district, an important Hezbollah stronghold.

Israel used in this attack vacuum and bunker pumps launched from the air. In addition, it also destroyed the main road through which thousands of Lebanese fled to Syria. This is the Masnaa civilian border crossing between Lebanon and Syria and Israel justifies this attack with the argument that Hezbollah was supposed to use it to transfer weapons of Syrian territory. Thanks to this step, they have already achieved more than 160,000 Syrians and Lebanese displaced.

Official Israeli sources cited by The New York Times confirm that Hachem Safieddine He was in one of the buildings attacked this morning, shortly after the army issued an evacuation order for residents in the area.

This point, on which the Israeli army has not officially commented, was confirmed by Israeli sources cited by the news portal. Axios. One of them specified that Safieddine was in a very deep bunker, It is not yet known whether he died in the attack.

A destroyed escape route

But Israel is not the only one attacking Beirut. He also bombed an area close to the main border crossing between Lebanon and Syria, leaving the Lebanese side isolated the road that connects Beirut to Damascus at a key moment when tens of thousands of people are fleeing towards Syrian territory.

At this time, there is no information on potential victims or the extent of the damage caused.

For its part, local television Al Manar, which belongs to Hezbollah, broadcast a video of the attacked point in which we can see big gaps and a destruction significant on the road targeted by the bombings.

It must be remembered that Syria is the only land supply route for Lebanon, which also has only one operational airfield in the entire country, the Rafic Hariri international airport in Beirut, near which several missiles have already fallen in recent days.
