Israel says US ‘feels powerless’ against Hamas

The United States “feels powerless” against Hamas and is putting pressure on Israel during ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip, the Jerusalem Post reports citing Israeli officials.

According to senior officials, the US side wants to complete the deal quickly because Hamas is holding US citizens captive.

“If they could reach a direct agreement with Hamas, they would most likely do so, but now they prefer to put pressure on Israel rather than on Hamas.” — the publication’s interlocutors continued.

They noted that before the bodies of six Hamas hostages were found in Gaza, American negotiators were optimistic and insisted that Hamas representatives should make concessions, but after these events everything changed.

Formerly Director of the CIA William BurnsThe Israeli President, who is involved in the Gaza talks, said that the new ceasefire proposal in the Gaza Strip was 90% agreed upon. He stressed that ending the conflict will require “some difficult compromises” from both Israel and Hamas, RBC recalls.
