Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the Finance Ministry, the Bank of Israel, the Prime Minister’s Ministry, the Tax Administration and the Headquarters for Combating Crime in the Arab Sector to consider withdrawing the NIS 200 banknotes from circulation, STMEGI reported, citing Newsru.co.il.
“This initiative was recently presented to the country’s economic leaders as part of proposals to combat organized crime and tax evasion.” – says the note.
It should be noted that, according to the Bank of Israel, the highest denomination banknotes in the shekel line participate significantly less in money circulation than others: they are used mainly for savings and for large cash transactions.
