Israeli attack exposed weaknesses in Iran’s defense: analysts

Recent Israeli airstrikes against Iran’s military infrastructure have posed a serious challenge to Iranian defense.

This was reported by the Voice of America.

Despite Tehran’s attempts to use direct attacks against Israeli targets as a deterrence strategy, experts believe these actions have increased the Islamic Republic’s vulnerability to its main adversary.

According to analyst Nicholas Heras of the New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy, the Israeli attacks demonstrated Israel’s clear military superiority over Iran. According to him, the destruction of Iran’s S-300 missile defense system and the destruction of a number of facilities associated with the development of ballistic missiles undermined important elements of Iran’s containment strategy.

Carnegie Fellow Nicole Grajewski also points out that the attacks only highlighted weaknesses in Iran’s defenses that Israel could exploit later. He stresses that direct attacks against Israel proved counterproductive for Tehran and only weakened its position.

War Zone analyst Thomas Newdick believes that the destruction of the S-300 system has made it much easier for Israel to carry out new operations against Iran. This event, in his opinion, not only paved the way for possible subsequent attacks, but also became a kind of signal for Iran, showing that Israel had already prepared several scenarios in case of an escalation.

Furthermore, Iran’s weakness has been exacerbated by the loss of communications with several key allies that have supported its containment policy in the region for years. Israel previously killed several Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, including Yahya Sinwar and Hassan Nasrallah, leading to a serious weakening of these organizations.

The Quincy Institute’s Stephen Simon noted during an online presentation that the outlook for Iran’s so-called “resistance axis,” which includes groups in Iraq, Gaza, Yemen and Lebanon, is increasingly bleak. According to him, Hamas has practically ceased to exist as a military organization and Hezbollah has suffered heavy losses, losing about 80% of its missile arsenal, which also significantly limits its ability to resist.

Simon also added that Hezbollah will now face the challenge of restoring its weapons arsenal from Iran, as the Syrian delivery route has been disrupted.

Earlier, Kursor wrote that Khamenei called for preparations for an attack on Israel.

Israel is “highly alert” to Iran’s response.
