The Russian Foreign Ministry responded to Israel’s powerful attack on Iran, expressing deep concern about the growing escalation between the countries.
The department emphasized that the situation represents a real threat to stability and security in the Middle East.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, the Russian side considers it important for all interested parties, both inside and outside the region, to stabilize the political-military situation as soon as possible.
Previously, Kursor wrote that Russia managed to warn Iran about the impending attack.
As Sky News Arabia reported, citing an anonymous source, Russia notified Iran about the actions of the United States and Israel, which were made possible by Moscow’s close cooperation with Tehran and the desire to reduce tensions in the region. According to the source, this warning helped Iran prepare in advance, allowing it to minimize the damage from Israeli attacks and limit them only to individual objects.
The Israeli strikes were aimed at military bases in the Iranian provinces of Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran, but a significant part of the attacks were successfully repelled by the Iranian air defense forces, the source notes. An official statement from Iran’s air defense forces, published by Mehr, confirmed that the strikes were aimed at military targets, despite repeated warnings from Tehran to refrain from adventurous actions. According to them, the assessment of the extent of the damage is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces said it carried out successful strikes against several targets in Iran, describing them as a response to “months of attacks.” The Israeli strikes focused on air defense and missile production sites, and attacks on Iranian nuclear and oil facilities were removed from the target list, the Washington Post reported.
