Advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Ali Akbar Velayati commented on the recent Israeli attack on Iranian targets.
The Iranian news agency Mehr writes about this.
According to him, Israel’s actions are simply “much ado about nothing,” because it is Tel Aviv that causes instability in the Middle East. Velayati expressed his conviction that Israel’s “aggressive policy” could provoke a new round of tensions and become a source of destabilization in the region.
He stressed that Iran has always followed “defensive approaches” and has never initiated military conflicts, recalling that history, in particular the war between Iran and Iraq, confirms this.
Velayati highlighted Iran’s diplomatic efforts and said the country strives to maintain balanced relations with both the West and the East. The Islamic Republic is willing to cooperate with Western countries, as long as its sovereignty is respected. The politician also stated that Iran is actively adjusting its foreign policy, expanding its ties with both Europe and other regions, including Asia and Africa.
Relations with Washington, according to Velayati, remain difficult. Iran is delaying resuming nuclear talks as it awaits the results of the US election. Velayati added that Tehran perceives current US actions as insincere, especially given Washington’s overt intervention on behalf of Israel.
“What Biden says quietly, Trump says openly,” said Khamenei’s adviser.
