Senator JD Vance, a Donald Trump ally and Republican vice presidential candidate, said that despite Israel’s right to self-defense, a war with Iran is not in the best interests of the United States. He stressed that such a conflict would be costly and divert important resources.
In an interview on The Tim Dillon Show podcast, JD Vance addressed the possibility of war in the Middle East and how the Trump administration would respond to such a situation. He noted that Israel has the right to defend itself, but stressed that the interests of the United States may not always coincide with those of Israel.
“Our interest is not in going to war with Iran. It would be a huge diversion of resources. It would be very costly for our country,” Vance said.
The Ohio senator emphasized that smart diplomacy, including expanding the Abraham Accords, plays an important role in achieving sustainable peace in the region.
“I’m not saying we’re going to go to the Middle East and start a war here, but look, we recognize that the Israelis and the Arab Gulf states don’t like Iran, so let’s let the Israelis and the Arab Gulf states provide a counterweight to Iran,” he added.
Vance noted that the United States does not need to constantly intervene in the affairs of every region of the world. According to him, it is worth giving people the opportunity to manage their regions independently. This will not only save a significant amount of money, but will also free up a significant amount of attention.

The IDF’s response to the massive October 1 rocket attack, in which Tehran launched more than 180 ballistic missiles at Israeli targets, was an attack deep inside Iran.
