At the end of 2023, Israel’s population was 9.915 million, Ashkelon.ru reports, citing the country’s Central Statistical Bureau (CSB).
Of the nearly 10 million inhabitants, 77% (about 7.632 million) are Jews and representatives of other nationalities, 20.8% (2.067 million) are Arabs. 2.2% of Israeli residents, about 216,000 people, are foreign citizens. The population growth rate in Israel in 2023 was 1.6%, compared to 2.2% in 2022.
“Among Jews aged 20 and over, 43.5% call themselves secular, 18.9% follow some traditions but do not consider themselves religious, 13% follow traditions and consider themselves religious, 12.5% are religious, 11.3% – ultra-religious,” — writes Ashkelon.ru.
According to the statistics agency, 3.46 million people have immigrated to the country since the creation of the State of Israel. In 2023, 46 thousand (in 2022, 74.4 thousand “olim hadashim”). In 2023, 55.3 thousand people left Israel for a long period or permanently, and 27.8 thousand returned after a long absence.
As of the end of 2022, there were 51,643 married couples in Israel and 15,196 divorced couples (data on marriages and divorces take longer to process because they are compiled from data provided by various sources, including rabbinates, Sharia courts, and other bodies).
In 2023, 178,724 children were born in Israel; the average Israeli woman has 2.85 children. Last year, 15,173 women turned to special commissions with a request to terminate their pregnancy. The referral rate was 6.9 per thousand women aged 15 to 49. During the reporting period, there were 2,920,300 families (private households) in the country, with an average of 3.19 people in each family.
In 2023, 81.5 thousand foreign workers arrived in Israel with work visas (67.8 thousand in 2022). 74.4 thousand foreign workers left Israel by the end of 2023 (compared to 55.1 thousand in 2022).
