– Mrs. Afaq, how did you decide to continue with this art?
– The art of composition is one of the ancient arts of Azerbaijan. Today, the construction center is located in the town of Gala. As you know, the town of Gala is one of our historic reserve towns. I myself grew up in that town.
We have seen this art in our house since we were little. The interior of our houses is such that there were lams, chakhchas, jumkhatans. I saw it from Nanamgil and my mother. They were tailors, they didn’t throw away scraps of fabric. To save money, they used various decorations to decorate the interior of the house. We saw it too and took it (laughs). We are still trying to keep this art alive today.
– Where do you present these construction works that you did today?
– Yes. Currently, we are trying to add the art of construction to the examples of art for the protection of national cultural heritage. The Icherisheher Museum Center has already been submitted to UNESCO.
Nowadays we make the gourman symbolically, as a decorative object, and we present it to tourists as a souvenir.
– Who is most interested in construction works?
– Our Azerbaijanis living abroad mainly like to shop. Especially during the Nowruz holidays, interest increases even more. Each region of Azerbaijan has building patterns, because each has its own pattern specificity, they also look at it, like it and buy it as a souvenir.
– How do you sell?
– Sometimes we can organize sales at fairs organized on the initiative of the Old City.
– The sales prices of the buildings are also interesting. What is the lowest and highest price?
– The price is determined by the Icherisheher Museum Center.
That is, as an artist, I do not define it, because I do not personally deal with this work. A total amount is allocated to our work.
I can say that we have wall hanging panels, the price of which varies between 1000 and 500 manats. The lowest price is 50 manats.
– How long does it take to prepare a panel?
– It depends on the artist himself. If you treat work as a hobby and have many other jobs, 4-5 months, but if you will only do that job, one month, the time may vary depending on the size.
