“We spent about five to ten minutes doing CPR between the two of us. “Once the paramedics arrived, we tried to help them as much as possible. We took turns with them until they stabilised him and took him to the hospital in Ronda,” Martín told the newspaper.
They did not have the opportunity to speak to him, so they do not know if the man suffered from any illness, but they were able to speak with his family a few hours after the operation. “They told me that he was in a very bad state when he entered intensive care, they were thinking of taking him to the capital Malaga”explains the officer, who also received a thank you call from the Serranía de Ronda hospital for its magnificent work with this man before the paramedics arrived.
“They told us that thanks to our departure, the man had arrived at the hospital alive.; If he hadn’t done it, we don’t know what would have happened,” he continues. As for Nicolás, his fellow intern, he assures that he “behaved very well” in a “very hard” experience, especially when you make sure that the person doesn’t react.
Experience and lack of experience went hand in hand in this performance and both managed to help the man. Javier has been working as a police officer for five years and spent time stationed in Parla, where he had to experience a situation similar to thiseven more serious. “I had to put a tourniquet on a person who had been attacked with a machete. He literally had a hole in his arm. We had to act very quickly to save his life,” the police officer recalls.
The agent regrets that Today, the national police cars are not equipped with AEDs. -defibrillator-, an essential device for saving lives on a daily basis. “I have always said that the more material resources we have, the better of course. It is better for us, but especially for the citizen, who is safer in his daily life,” he says.
