The Minister of Culture of Italy, Gennaro Sangiulianopresented his “irrevocable resignation” this Friday after days of controversy over the case of an “influencer” with whom he had an emotional relationship and who claims to have exercised advisory functions, in a controversy that has affected the government of Giorgia Meloni.
According to the local press, the Italian head of state, President Sergio Mattarellaaccepted Sangiuliano’s resignation and received this afternoon at a meeting Meloni, who proposed Alessandro Giuli, known in Italy for his journalistic career and as a television personality, as his replacement for the Culture portfolio.
“Dear President, dear Giorgia, after much thought, during painful days full of hatred towards me from a certain media political system, I have decided to irrevocably resign from my position as Minister of Culture,” Sangiuliano said in a statement.
Sangiuliano admitted on television on Wednesday that he was indeed in a romantic relationship with the “influencer” and apologized to his wife and to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who rejected his resignation on Tuesday.
