Andrea Lucidi, a 34-year-old Italian journalist for International Reporters, who has been covering the special operation in Ukraine for more than two years, asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to grant her Russian citizenship due to persecution in her homeland. Lucidi reported this to TASS.
“I sent my application for Russian citizenship to the president to the website. Why do I want to obtain Russian citizenship? I want to live in Russia because it is my second home. “I wanted to make my contribution to the war against fascism because I am anti-fascist and this is important to me.” Lucidi said.
According to him, he is afraid to return to his homeland because the police could take away his Italian passport. Several Italian media outlets wrote that he is allegedly an “agent of the Kremlin” and receives money for this in cryptocurrencies.
“This is not true. I work for Italian television channels. Just as I worked from Lebanon, from Syria, I also work from Russia,” the journalist emphasized.
Lucidi made a request to Putin also because the president’s participation will help quickly overcome bureaucratic obstacles to obtaining Russian citizenship.
