Etna, the largest active volcano of the European plaque and located on the Italian island of Sicily (South), again flared up with strong explosions, a high column of smoke and casting pyroxy material on its southeast slope. The authorities guarantee that the eruption is not dangerous for the population, since it did not exceed the valley at an altitude of 2800 meters.
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) controls the situation and, in its last ballot, confirmed it with thermal chambers the presence of pico -piclistic flows cast with lava and gases that move at the ground level.
The stream, explains the observatory, probably came from the collapse of the part of the southeast crater, but the “hot material” did not seem to exceed the “lion valley, which tourists usually cross in their ascent to Etne.
The first notification of INGV occurred at 02.39 local time last night, when he warned of a “sudden change in parameters” at an altitude of 2800 meters in this huge and very active Sicilian volcano. He then found that the activity of the “Strombolian” type explained, but it releases “modest” energy – in the southeast -eastern crater, as well as the “gradual increase” of the tremor.
In the last part, INGV reports that the explosive activity in the southeast crater led to the fact that the lava is poured, and the volcanic tremor reached “very high values”. This eruption of impressive eTna can be perfectly observed from the nearby city of Katania (South), which, nevertheless, supports its operating airport.
Without danger at the moment
The President of Sicily, Renato Shifan, excluded the danger to the population at the moment, according to the information that he receives from civil protection. “According to the first data, the material did not exceed the edge of the lion valley, and, as they assure me, there are no dangers for the population,” he said.
Nevertheless, the head of Sicilian civil protection, with the exception of cooking, recommended “maximum care” to tourists and “avoid the upper area of the volcano”. At least “to a new notification” from the “potential evolution of this phenomenon,” he said.
