The world’s current efforts to combat climate change are insufficient. This was stated today, November 11, by the president of Belarus, Alexandr Lukashenko, in an express interview given to the AnewZ television channel.
The Belarusian leader was asked whether he believes the goal of limiting the rise in average global temperature to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels is achievable and whether countries around the world are doing enough to achieve it.
“If we do this and with such “sufficiency”, then it will be unattainable. Nothing changes. On the contrary, it is getting worse and worse. And those countries that should be primarily dedicated to reducing emissions, unfortunately, do not do so. And there is no positive point in this regard. Therefore, the question arises about the effectiveness of such measures. “I think they are ineffective.” – said
Alexander Lukashenko also spoke about why the leaders of some Western countries refused to participate in the Baku summit.
“They think that everything will be fine and that the climate will not change. That is, they believe that everything will turn out well. It won’t work. And there is no need to suffer because they did not come. “The Lord sees” – noted the president of Belarus.
Let us remember that Alexander Lukashenko will make a working visit to Azerbaijan on November 11 and 12, where he will participate in the World Summit on Climate Change (COP29). The event is held under the auspices of the United Nations. Tens of thousands of delegates, including many heads of state and government, will participate in the global forum. In his speech, Lukashenko will outline Belarus’ national position on agenda items related to climate change and the measures that the international community should take to address emerging challenges in this area.
