October 20 is the birthday of the great artist, People’s Artist Shavkat Alakbarova.
Oku.Az Remember that Sh. Alekbarova was born on October 20, 1922 in Baku.
After graduating from Huseyngulu Sarabski’s class at the Asaf Zeynalli Music School, he began performing on stage.
In 1938-1945 he was a soloist of the Azerbaijan State Song and Dance Ensemble. Since 1945 he worked as a soloist of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic.
In 1937 he participated in the competition of artistic collectives and managed to attract the attention of artists such as Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Said Rustamov, Bulbul with his speech. At the final concert held at the Opera House, Shavkat Alakbarova performed “The Shake of Karabakh” and placed in the top three together with Fatma Mehraliyeva and Gulaga Mammadov. This competition laid the foundation for Shavkat Alakbarova’s entry into professional music.
Folk songs, mugams and composer songs performed by Sh Alekbarova, who began working as a soloist of the Philharmonic in 1945, have gained wide popularity in Azerbaijan.
He successfully performed in France, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, India, Egypt, Algeria, Iran, Turkey, Poland and other foreign countries. Millions of people have heard such mugams as “Segah”, “Qatar”, “Shahnaz” from the repertoire of Shavkat Alakbarova, songs by Azerbaijani composers and Middle Eastern peoples.
Sh. Alekbarova died on February 7, 1993.
