Izquierda Unida is investigating complaints received on an Instagram profile, for alleged sexual abuse, which point to the press secretary of the IU municipal group at Oviedo City Hall. This person resigned yesterday from all his positions within the organization, as well as from his position at Oviedo City Hall.
The head of Equality of the IU Asturias, Begoña Collado, and general director of Democratic Memory of the Principality, explained to elDiario.es Asturias that she was not aware of this matter until Sunday after -noon, “complaints arose” in an Instagram group. At that time, he details, all the published information was collected and transferred to the competent body, which is the Care Commission of the Federal Directorate of IU.
Collado reported that after learning of these complaints, they spoke with this person, he denies the facts and announces legal action. The head of Equality in the Asturian organization highlights the “promptness” with which they acted since they reacted within 24 hours and “this person is no longer part of our organization,” she emphasizes.
From elDiario.es Asturias we contacted Gaspar Llamazares, spokesperson for the IU municipal group at Oviedo City Hall, who did not want to make any statements on this subject, assuring that “the word in this matter is Izquierda Unida en Asturias” and specifying that the person targeted by the complaints is not an advisor to the group but rather its press officer.

The Instagram profile in which these complaints were made public was launched at the beginning of November and already includes more than 50 anonymous testimonies from women who report, in these publications, different situations of harassment, abuse and sexual assault.
