THE “Cigara Toledana” celebrated its eighth edition this Sunday in Toledo, in a tour that, beyond its physical demand, offered an incomparable tour of the Cigarrales of the city, with its emblematic views of Toledo as protagonist. This event, organized by the sports entity Cigarra Toledana, seeks every year to highlight the value of the city’s landscapes and natural heritage.
With participation limited to 500 runners, The race is part of the World Heritage Motor Circuit and the setting couldn’t be more appropriate: a 16-kilometer route with departure and arrival at the Cigarral de Santa María vineyards.
At 10:00 a.m., the riders began with a neutralized start, following a motorcycle for the first kilometer, which allowed them to set the pace before entering the circuit. This year, in addition, the route has been renewed, offering runners a new challenge with new markers on the route.
Ricardo Martínez, winner of the last three editionscould not repeat the title this year, giving way to Jaime Díaz, from the CA San Pablo club, who won the competition with a time of 1:09:47. In the women’s category, the first to cross the finish line was María del Carmen, who covered the distance in 1:24.
The event not only attracted the runners, but also their family and friends, who enjoyed a day of sports in a unique environment in which the little ones could enjoy their particular race, the “cigarita”, and While the head was arriving, they were able to participate in a Zumba show. And finally, all participants took part in a wine tasting themselves at the Cigarral Santa Maria vineyards.
