During the opening of this day, Councilor Patricia Fanlo highlighted Navarre’s strong commitment to research and innovation, highlighting the investment made by the regional executive during this year. “In 2024, we invested more than 26 million euros in different calls for aid that benefited research staff, businesses, SMEs, technology centers and other entities,” he said. he pointed out.
In this sense, he also highlighted that “the Foral Community has allocated 4 euros out of 10 of NextGeneration EU funds to R&D&i, with internal expenditure for investigation which in 2022 amounted to 409 million euros.
Likewise, Councilor Fanlo celebrated that, for the first time, one of the people who are part of the Navarra R&D&I System for his career and contribution.
“With this novelty we want to highlight the important role that research professionals play in the advancement of our society, a strong sector that works so that Navarrese citizens have a better future,” he added. In addition, Fanlo asked the Government of Navarra to work so that more women join the innovation and research ecosystemreflecting “the system’s commitment to equality in research.”

He worked in Navarrabiomed Microbial Pathogenesis Group and in the Pasteur Institute of Paris. In his most recent work published this year in the prestigious journal Nature Communicationshis group demonstrates how these amyloid aggregates, produced by bacteria in the intestinal microbiota, could be linked to Parkinson’s disease.
This work has had a great impact not only in the scientific field but also in society, as evidenced by numerous press releases and national television. It is important to emphasize that part of these results are the result of intense collaborations between different groups in the sector. SINAI (Nasertic, CIMA, University of Navarra and Navarrabiomed) within the collaborative project MICROPROGEN, funded by the Government of Navarre and coordinated by ADItech, demonstrating how these synergies led by Valle have contributed to the generation of cutting-edge knowledge of great social impact .
Throughout his career, Jaione secured prestigious competitive contracts such as the Marie Slowdoska Curie, the Ramón y Cajal and in 2016 she received the prestigious L’Oréal-UNESCO “Women in Science” grant for her research on the microbiota.
