By the end of the year, the armed forces of the United States and Japan will develop a plan for joint actions in the Taiwan Strait in the event of a military conflict. This is reported by TASS in reference to the Kyodo agency.
According to the publication, the plan will provide for the deployment of American missile forces in the Philippines and the southwestern islands of Japan adjacent to this area, as well as the placement of special fortresses. US Marine units equipped with HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems will deploy to islands between Kagoshima Prefecture on the Japanese island of Kyushu and the southwestern tip of Okinawa Prefecture. The Japanese Armed Forces will provide them with logistical support by providing ammunition and fuel.
In parallel, US missile units, communications and space guidance, cyber and electronic warfare groups will be deployed in the north of the Philippines. Since April, Typhon mobile land-based installations have been deployed there, with which Tomahawk long-range cruise missiles and SM-6 multi-function missiles can be launched. They can be used to attack ground targets, as well as destroy air targets, including ballistic ones.
In accordance with the agreement reached in February 2023 between Washington and Manila, the Philippines made four military facilities on its islands available to the United States. Thus, the Pentagon has a total of nine support points in the country, which in the event of a crisis will be complemented by the deployment of US Navy aircraft carrier strike groups in the region.
All of this is aimed at giving the US-Japanese group superior forces at sea and in the air, Kyodo claims.
As the agency notes, in the event of a crisis in Taiwan, the entire surrounding area will become a theater of military operations.
