Jean-Luc Mélenchon calls for “a joint candidacy” on the basis of the LFI program in the event of early presidential elections

Jean-Luc Mélenchon calls a demonstration for those who want to join the program of La Francia insoumise (LFI), in the event of early presidential elections that he calls.

“We are in favor of a joint candidacy. We told each other ten times, according to the program. And as we go with the program, whoever wants to come is welcome.”launched during a speech to activists in Paris, on Friday, November 29, the leader of the LFI who wants the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron.

“We understood that (…) the Communist Party no longer wants us, we have understood that the right of the Socialist Party no longer wants us [de nous] and we refuse to continue our path with people who insult us along the way.”he added. The leader, already a presidential candidate on three occasions, proposed a “federal offer” has “those who want” join LFI to “present a joint candidacy for the presidential elections”.

“The farce that consists of coming to each election to take constituencies and undermine the program is over”he warned.

Disagreement on the strategy to follow

These statements come at a time when the threat of censorship looms over Barnier’s government, but the different left-wing parties do not seem to agree on the course to follow. LFI criticizes the socialists for wanting to get closer to the presidential field and thus bury the New Popular Front.

On Sunday, the leader of the socialist deputies, Boris Vallaud, advocated for a dialogue between all parties, with the exception of the National Rally, to “raise the question of the conditions for non-censorship”which would necessarily imply compromises. In late October, Communist Party chief Fabien Roussel, who lost his seat as a deputy for the North in June, argued that if he ran again, “it would not be in alliance with LFI”.

The various left-wing candidates during the 2022 presidential elections had reduced Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s chances of advancing to the second round of the presidential elections.
