Jewish soccer players in Berlin attacked again

The footballers of the Maccabi youth team were subjected to insults, threats and anti-Semitic attacks after finishing a match in Berlin, the ARD television channel reported today, November 10.

The incident occurred when a group of people allegedly began insulting players of a German Jewish football club and shouting anti-Semitic slogans.

The father of one of the players said Friday that the atmosphere during the match was “aggressive and hostile,” with a group of unidentified men “constantly shouting insults and spitting at Maccabi players on the field.” After the final whistle, the situation allegedly worsened when a group of young fans, as well as players from the opposing team, attacked the representatives of the German Jewish club with “sticks and knives.”

Today, when the details of the game became known, law enforcement began an investigation into the attackers. The police also promised that they will be present at all of the Berlin club’s home games in the future. The Maccabi youth team’s matches, which took place this weekend, ended without incident, law enforcement officials reported.

“Lately there have been attacks against players from the Maccabi sports club in Berlin. These acts show that anti-Semitic violence and discrimination have not disappeared in our city. Anyone who attacks people should expect to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. “We are doing everything we can to ensure that Jewish life in Berlin is and remains safe.” — a member of the Berlin Senate commented on the incident Iris Spranger.

EADaily remember that two days ago the fans of the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team were subjected to massive attacks by people who support Palestine and the Gaza Strip.
