Jeyhun Bayramov briefed the US official on the process of peace agreement with Armenia

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received the delegation led by Joshua Haq, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.

Oku.Az reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan (MFA) has published information on this matter.

The meeting discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States, as well as the regional situation in the post-conflict period and the prospects for the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States was highly appreciated in the framework of preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will take place in Azerbaijan this year.

Despite efforts to create positive dynamics in bilateral relations and to define prospects for cooperation, attention was drawn to the fact that biased views of some US officials have a negative impact on bilateral relations. In this regard, on September 16, referring to statements by the Deputy Administrator of the Agency for International Development, Isobel Coleman, against Azerbaijan at the Embassy of Armenia in the United States, it was noted that such statements disrespected the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, and the facts related to anti-terrorist measures that put an end to the illegal presence of the Armenian armed forces in the sovereign territories of our country are aimed at distorting.

During the meeting, the other side was informed about the situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the normalization process and the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It was mentioned that Azerbaijan, as the initiator of the main elements of the peace process with Armenia, is an interested party in establishing peace and stability in the region. Mine threats in the region were noted and possible cooperation in this direction was considered.

Despite significant progress in the peace agreement negotiations, it was noted that the most serious obstacle to the signing of the final peace agreement is the continuation of territorial claims against Azerbaijan in a number of legal and political documents of this country, especially in the Constitution of Armenia. In addition, it was stated that Armenia’s militarization policy does not promote peace and stability in the region.

During the meeting, views were exchanged on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
