Jeyhun Bayramov spoke at the UN General Assembly’s “Summit for the Future”

My country, Azerbaijan, has experienced the most tragic consequences of violations of international law, including humanitarian law, and has been subjected to the injustice of non-compliance with the Charter and a number of resolutions of the main organs of the United Nations.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said this at the “Future Summit” held within the framework of the “High-Level Week” of the 79th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly), he said in his speech.

The Minister informed the representatives of the Member States about the reconstruction works carried out on the lands liberated from the occupation of Azerbaijan in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): “At this critical moment, when the world is facing unprecedented problems, including climate change, conflicts and geopolitical tensions, the peak of the future is inequality. It is at an important crossroads and shows that the multilateral system can work with one voice. My country has experienced the most tragic consequences of violations of international law, including humanitarian law, and has been subjected to the injustice of non-compliance with the UN Charter and a number of resolutions. Azerbaijan fully supports the summit’s call for strict observance of international legal norms and elimination of the erosion of international norms.

We need a roadmap to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, which currently represent only 17% of the SDG target. There is an urgent need to translate our political commitments into decisive actions to achieve progress. In this regard, Azerbaijan fully supports the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to strengthen progress on the SDGs and has set an example for others by moving forward by prioritizing 17 goals, 88 targets and 119 indicators, adhering to the commitments made at the national level in the 75th anniversary declaration. This was achieved through a collaborative and inclusive process involving civil society, the business community, women, youth and other key stakeholders.

The liberation of our territories from occupation also opened a new page in terms of achieving the SDGs. The government has embarked on a large-scale reconstruction and rehabilitation project worth $10 million, covering all aspects of the implementation of the SDGs. In addition, Azerbaijan presented an action-oriented national goal – SDG 18. We call on Member States for more international support and solidarity.”
