Joe Biden considers the death of the leader of Hezbollah “a measure of justice for his many victims”

The President of the United States, Joe Bidenestimated that the death of the leader of the Shiite group Hezbollah Hasan Nasrallah in Israeli bombing is “a measure of justice for his many victims, including thousands of American, Israeli and Lebanese civilians.

“Hassan Nasrallah and the terrorist group he led, Hezbollah, were responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans during a reign of terror lasting approximately four decades,” the president said in a statement released by the White House, in which he reiterated the Israel’s right to self-defense.

The attack that killed Nasrallah this Friday in Lebanon “occurred in the broad context of the conflict which began with the massacre of Hamas on October 7, 2023. Nasrallah, the next day, made the fateful decision to join forces with Hamas and to open what he called a ‘northern front’ against Israel,” Biden said.

“The United States fully supports Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis and any other Iranian-backed terrorist group,” the president said.

Biden indicated that this Friday his Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, had ordered: “Increase the defense posture of U.S. military forces in the Middle East region to deter aggression and reduce the risk of broader regional war.“The Democratic president added that his objective is to de-escalation conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon “by diplomatic means”, and as an example he cited the efforts to give respite to the two enclaves which marked the agenda of the UN General Assembly.

“In Gaza, we are seeking an agreement supported by the UN Security Council for a ceasefire and the release of hostages. In Lebanon, we have negotiated an agreement that (allows) people to return home in all security and southern Lebanon. Biden argued that “it is time for these agreements to be concluded. threats against Israel are eliminated and that the Middle East region as a whole gains greater stability.
