A new feat was achieved by the Toledo athlete Juan López, 81 years old (Unicaja-CAT), during the World Veterans Marathon Championship held in Bucarets. In one fell swoop, he managed to beat the European record for over-80s with a time of 3h 39m 10s, breaking the previous record of the German Witting (3.39.58 in 2017). That is to say, López reduced it by 48 seconds. At the same time, he broke the Spanish record in his category, set at 4.38.
