Judge delays Trump’s sentencing on ‘Stormy Daniels case’ until after election

A New York judge has postponed sentencing until November 26 against former US President Donald Trump on charges related to paying a porn star to keep quiet about the relationship between the two men.

Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, had asked Judge Juan Merchan to delay his sentencing date until after the Nov. 5 election. Trump had previously been scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 18, less than two months before the election.

In August, Trump’s lawyers argued that there would not be enough time before sentencing for the defense to appeal Merchan’s upcoming ruling on Trump’s request to overturn the conviction because of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on presidential immunity.
