Junts leaves government blocked and cancels Sumar law to regulate temporary rentals

Surprise at Congressmessage to the Government. The seven deputies of Junts per Catalunya left the executive blocked this Tuesday and decided at the last minute to vote against the examination of a bill by Sumar aimed at regulating temporary rentals.

The vote was tight and required the presence of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who arrived in the room, without a tie, at the end of the debate on the first motion of the plenary session. From the Juntas, both in Catalonia and Madrid, they had expressed their decision to abstain, which made it imperative that the rest of the allies of the investiture vote in favor of the text.

They faced 171 guaranteed votes, with the PP, Vox and Unión del Pueblo Navarro voting against them, who considered the proposal too interventionist. The only unknown was what José Luis Ábalos, now in the Mixed Group, would do after distancing himself from the PSOE position last week in several votes. This time he voted in favour of its consideration, but it was Junts who, through their change of opinion or strategy, caused Sumar’s initiative to fail.
