The Democratic candidate for the presidency of the United States, Vice President Kamala Harris, promised this Sunday in the pivotal state of Michigan that she would work to end Israel’s war in Gaza and Lebanon and will give Palestinians the “dignity” they deserve.
At a rally in East Lansing, the candidate spoke directly to the Arab community, a key group in winning the 15 votes of the State Electoral College, to recognize “that this year has been difficult because of the death and destruction in Gaza and because of the death and displacement of civilians in Lebanon.”
“As president, I will do everything in my power to end the war in Gazareturn the hostages to their homes and end the suffering in Gaza, guarantee the security of Israel and ensure that the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, freedom, security and self-determination,” said Harris.
The Arab vote Michigan is the key to tipping the scales Tuesday in favor of the Democrats, who, with President Joe Biden in 2020, managed to overtake Republican Donald Trump by more than 20 points.
However, this year the polls give Trump the advantage in the voting intentions of Arabs, who could turn their backs on Harris because he is part of the Biden administration, which continues to support Israel with weapons in its operations in Gaza, Lebanon or Yemen against aligned militias on Iran.
Harris didn’t mention Trump’s name once at that rally, but she pointed out differences in his policies and character while trying to convey a positive message.
The vice president called on young Generation Z, those born in the first decade of the 2000s, to mobilize their knowledge to vote and said, “I see your power.”
This group of voters, who normally do not participate much in elections, This is another of the strategic segments of the population to win the state, where Harris has now focused all of her voting activity two days before Election Day.
