Harris answered questions in an interview about the Joe Biden administration’s interaction with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
It happened on 60 Minutes on CBS.
Journalist Bill Whitaker noted that despite the multibillion-dollar military aid the United States provides to Israel, Netanyahu often ignores the Biden administration’s positions. He also expressed concern about threats from Iran that could lead to a regional war.
When Whitaker asked Harris if the White House had influence over Netanyahu, she said that American military assistance was needed to protect Israel, especially in light of threats from Iran, including the rejection of 200 ballistic missiles.
“We must provide Israel with the means to defend itself against Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran,” said the presidential candidate.
However, he said that the diplomatic dialogue continues and the United States insists on its principles: the need to stop the violence, deliver humanitarian aid and conclude an agreement for the return of the hostages.
“We will continue to press Israel on these issues,” Harris added, noting that this pressure has already borne fruit.
And when asked by a reporter if Netanyahu is a close ally of the United States, Harris responded that the most important thing is the alliance between the people of the United States and Israel.
“And the answer to this question is yes,” he concluded.
Recall that Cursor wrote that US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will meet with his Israeli counterpart, Yoav Galant, on October 9 at the Pentagon to discuss the current security situation in the Middle East. The meeting will take place in the context of Iran’s recent missile attack on Israel, which involved more than 180 ballistic missiles.
