The Kantxa bar is located at 33 rue Juan de Labrit, next to the Labrit pediment. It is very close to other establishments that we have seen in this section of the local commerce of the old town of the Navarrese capital.
As is the case, for example, of the Deportes Perkain store, located at 30 Merced Street either Julio Atienza’s TBO comic book store at 28 Merced Street.
Txus Pellicer Gesto is 45 years old and is the current manager of the Kantxa bar, which maintains on its facade a huge, very characteristic sign with the list of names of professional baseball champions.
Txus is originally from Santiago de Compostela “But I’ve lived in Pamplona all my life. After a year he was here. That’s why I have Galician things here, because every year I go to Galicia,” he emphasizes.
He has been working at the Kantxa bar for four years: “It has been a very nice experience. We started during the pandemic and now we are working very well for the neighborhood. We have a very well accepted cuisine. Traditional sandwiches, portions of octopus, scallops. A bit of a mix of Galicia and Navarre,” he explains.
There is no daily menu: “We have a few people at lunchtime who ask for a few more portions and then In the evening, there is a slightly younger clientele who demands a few more snacks.even if the late afternoon takes over,” says the bar manager.
“Jolle Ibérico with shrimps, another with grilled squid with parmentier and paprika sauce, one of cheeks with Idiazabal cheese sauce, in addition to loins with cheese and pepper, chistorra and the usual things”, explains Txus Pellicer.
Every month they add a different sandwich or burger. As for the bar hours, they rest on Mondays. From Tuesday to Thursday they are only open in the afternoon and the main course arrives on the weekend: “We are open morning and afternoon on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.”
Txus highlights the good atmosphere that is created during professional ball matches on the Labrit fronton, just ten meters away: “There is a significant pelotazale atmosphere. Many come to eat, others for coffee time, others to drink pacharán then enter the pediment.
“There are more and more ball fans. Every match is sold out and there is a very good atmosphere.” In addition, The bar has a very cool decoration with photos and paintings alluding to this sporting modality.
Up to eight people work, three in the kitchen and five taking turns at the bar. weekend mornings and afternoons” from the end of October, when the baseball season begins at Labrit, and also during the Sanfermines “when there are matches morning, afternoon and evening and next to the Plaza de Toros”, concludes Txus Pellicer.
