Karasin commented on Armenia’s refusal to comply with the ICC order for Putin’s “arrest”

The chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Grigory Karasin, has called Armenia’s refusal to support the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) order for the “arrest” of Russian President Vladimir Putin “useful.”

“Considering the fact that the so-called ICC some time ago took an anti-Russian position and put the head of our state at risk, and generally allowed itself to be described as some kind of reactionary judicial organization, such a decision by Yerevan will be understood by our society and fully deserves positive comments,” the senator noted.

In his opinion, “such a decision by Yerevan will only bring benefits.”

“It would be good if such decisions were taken by other states, and not only by the Commonwealth of Independent States, but also by generally sensible leadership circles of responsible states,” – said Karasin.

As reported EADailyArmenia withdrew its signature from the Council of Europe declaration approving the ICC order for Putin’s “arrest.” This fact was discovered after the publication of the final version of the document on the EC website. It follows from this that the ICC order was supported by Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine and Moldova, the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Great Britain, as well as Georgia and several other countries. The signature of the representative of Armenia is missing, although it was in the initial draft of the declaration.

At the same time, Armenia ratified the Rome Statute of the ICC in October 2023 and assumed the corresponding legal obligations.

The Council of Europe members adopted the document on September 6. It calls for the creation of a special court “for crimes of aggression against Ukraine.” The statement lists ICC orders for the “arrest” of Vladimir Putin, the children’s ombudsman.
