Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee has shut down 13 channels of illegal arms trafficking

Since the beginning of this year, the National Security Committee (NSC) of Kazakhstan has shut down 13 channels of illegal arms trafficking and two workshops for their artisanal production, the press service of the department reported.

According to the information, in July-August 2024, officers took measures to suppress the illegal activities of a group of persons involved in illegal trafficking of firearms and ammunition in Astana and Shchuchinsk (Akmola region).

“During searches in the capital, 2 Kalashnikov assault rifles stolen during the January riots and 43 rounds of ammunition were seized. In Shchuchinsk, 7 firearms, 4 pistols and more than 1,500 rounds of ammunition of various calibres were seized. Forensic ballistic examinations have been ordered and pre-trial investigations are underway.” – the statement says.

In total, since the beginning of this year, the National Security Committee, together with the police, has eliminated 13 channels of illegal arms trafficking, as well as 2 workshops for their artisanal production.

Seized: 41 machine guns, 203 shotguns, 121 pistols, 57 grenades, 1 grenade launcher, 44 explosive devices, 11,138 cartridges of various calibers.

Measures to combat illegal arms trafficking continue.
