It is possible to become infected with the dangerous Coxsackie virus, which is transmitted among children, due to dirty hands.
Oku.AzAccording to Izvestia, this was warned by the Russian therapist-immunologist, specialist in especially dangerous infections, Vladislav Zhemchugov.
He said that the symptoms of Coxsackie virus in the first three days are similar to those of the common cold, acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) and talked about its distinctive symptoms.
“In the first days, fever, runny nose, cough, muscle aches and headache are observed. Then rashes appear, which is what distinguishes the Coxsackie virus from the others: large rashes may appear in the mouth, tongue, gums and body In addition, vomiting, diarrhea and cracks in the hands may occur,” he said.
Jemchugov noted that most children under the age of 10 are infected with the virus and that the younger the child, the more severe the symptoms.
“The nasopharynx and meninges are damaged, there may be symptoms of meningitis. This virus can damage the heart, liver and kidneys. It is transmitted through airborne droplets, food and dirty hands,” the doctor explained.
The immunologist added that it is important to call the doctor at the slightest discomfort and take anti-inflammatories until your arrival.
Lyubov Stankevich, Russia’s director of production and laboratory medicine, said the Coxsackie virus can be easily transmitted through common objects such as railings, door handles or pipes in common areas. He recommended washing your hands frequently, avoiding close contact with people who have conjunctivitis, coughs or colds.
Additionally, parents are advised to limit their children’s access to public restaurants or school cafeterias, where they might forget to wash their hands.
