KIA plans to produce a cheap electric car

South Korean automotive giant KIA plans to significantly expand its line of electric cars in the coming years.

Oku.AzThe company is working on an ultra-affordable electric car with the “EV1” rating and a sporty flagship model.

Kia’s main goal at the moment is to produce an electric car with a starting price of between 25,000 and 30,000 euros. But the company’s ambitions are bigger: in the future, it is planned to lower the “entry level” to the world of electric cars to below 20,000 euros. Such an electric car would be a battery-powered alternative to the popular Kia Picanto. However, these plans will require cheaper batteries than those currently on the market.

In parallel with the development of the budget EV1, Kia is exploring the possibility of launching a car that would be the ideological successor to the Stinger GT sports sedan. According to estimates, the brand’s new flagship could feature an all-wheel drive system and over 600 horsepower.

As KIA Motors President Ho-sung Song noted, the company is optimistic about the future despite the current weakening demand for electric cars in Europe. According to the top executive, the current recession is a temporary phenomenon and in the long term the trend towards widespread use of electric cars will continue.
