Kyrgyzstan is developing a national plan for adaptation to climate change, the Minister of Natural Resources of the Republic, Meder Mashiev, announced this at a conference in Bishkek.
The plan will include sectoral measures to protect the economy, agriculture and water resources from the impacts of climate change. Mashiev called this “a responsible step to protect current and future generations.”
“Our glaciers are melting and extreme weather events are becoming more frequent. We must prepare the population and key sectors for these challenges,” – said.
The Minister recalled the presidential initiative “Jashyl Muras”, within the framework of which millions of trees are planted annually to restore forests, improve air quality and combat land degradation.
He noted the importance of international cooperation and support from partners, which enabled Kyrgyzstan to implement projects to protect biodiversity and expand protected areas.
“These efforts will help create a more sustainable future for the country and the world,” – said Mashiev.
