The Kyrgyz Ministry of Health has proposed legalizing traditional medicine and has prepared a draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers on the procedure for training specialists in this field. The document was posted on a special website for public discussion.
The certificate of justification states that traditional medicine covers a wide range of methods, from treatment with herbs and other natural remedies to various procedures (herbal medicine, massage, acupuncture, apitherapy, hirudotherapy and others). In this regard, it is proposed to study and systematize the practical methods of traditional medicine, develop and integrate training programs and create a material and technical base.
In addition, the medical department believes that it is necessary to train certified specialists in this field. Traditional medicine should be taught by trained teachers with relevant experience and theoretical and practical skills.
“In order to train students, it is necessary to open a research institute or academy on Kyrgyz traditional medicine. It is proposed to strengthen the training of residents and postgraduate students on the basis of the Kyrgyz State Medical Institute for Retraining and Advanced Training and to open a thesis council for the defense of academic degrees in traditional medicine.” – the reasoning goes.
It is proposed to open budgetary tariffs for traditional medicine specialties (acupuncture, manual therapy, phytotherapy) in all medical institutions in the country.
“In order to conduct clinical trials and determine the effectiveness of medicinal plants, it is necessary to open a research institute or academy. The Cabinet of Ministers is proposed to organize plantations of medicinal herbs with the subsequent production of medicines.” – continues the reasoning.
