La Xunta exhausts its ceiling and allocates 10,267 of the 13,954 million of the budget to social spending

La Xunta exhausts the spending ceiling provided for in the community’s draft budget for 2025, with a total of 13,954 million euros, including 10,267 intended for health (5,434 million), education (2,972 million), social policies (1,415 million) and employment (446 million).

This amount called social spending increases 5% (490 million more) compared to the 2024 budgetabove the 2.6% increase in overall accounts. The municipal councilor of Facenda, Miguel Corgos, during the press conference after the Extraordinary Council that approved the project, which must enter Parliament this Saturday.

Corgos and the president of the Galician government, Alfonso Rueda, affirmed “the rigor of these accounts” and that “one more year” the Xunta presents them to have them approved “on time”, which they contrasted with this what is happening with the Central executive.

Rueda presented these budgets as “the highest in history”, he called them “conservative”, because they play it safe in the estimates of what the community will receive autonomous and in forecasting the macroeconomic landscape. Thus, they estimate an increase of 2.1% in GDP in 2025year in which the Xunta estimates that the unemployment rate will end at 9.1%

In this sense, the councilor of Facenda declared that “Galicia is experiencing continuous and sustainable growth once the crisis has passed”, while the Galician president highlighted that it is the “first time” that social spending exceeds the 10 billion. He also claimed “a very special effort” in access to housingwith particular emphasis on increasing supply.

In this regard, the Xunta estimates that the budget is dedicated to housing at 221 million and quantifies the increase at 55 million. The objective is to end the legislature with 8,000 social housing units.

Debt

In his speech, Corgos announced that the maximum level of convergence had been reached. in addition to announcing that the moderation of the CPI, as planned by the Xunta, will stimulate the recovery of household consumption. In the income section he placed Debt/GDP ratio of 15.7% and placed it six points below the average of the autonomous communities.

In this scenario, he took the opportunity to recall that, according to the Xunta, “accepting the cancellation of the debt is not a priority nor an advantage as agreed for Catalonia”, since “Galicia has not no debt problem.” On the expenditure side, the public accounts project for 2025 provides a 7.2% increase in financial valuesup to 214.3 million.

Corgos explained that this increase is “normal” and “occurs depending on the evolution of tariffs” and in relation to repayment of a debt which has a half-life of eight years. “It was refinanced at very low rates, close to 0, and the conditions are now around 2.5-3%,” he said.

Investments

THE personnel costs increased by 5.1%, to 5,147 million, which includes the contingency fund for the increase in salaries approved by the Central Executive for public employees, as well as resources intended to create new positions in public services ( 1,400 in health, including more than 100 for new MIRs.

Real investments, for their part, are increasing 5.1%, to 1,684.1 million. In this regard, it has been estimated that the Galician Infrastructure Agency will allocate more than 50 million “additional” dollars to civil works after disbursement, which will avoid paying tolls in the shadows.

Finally, regarding local entities, in addition to the position intended to support part of the increase in Canon Sogama, quantified what they will receive in 2025 at €641 million and estimated the increase at €30 million.
