Launch of the Toledo leisure-sports macroproject in Layos

CD Toledo continues to grow. Last Sunday, the team with the green jersey announced that it had already reached the figure of 2,600 subscribers, a historic record for the entity, without a doubt.

Although it is true that in the sports section, in the section of objectives, things are not working quite well, in terms of the social and leisure aspects, the arrow is rising unstoppably. Without going any further, this same Sunday afternoon, a hundred green jerseys were sold before the match against Atlético Albacete, and this is just one example.

These growth figures increased quite surprisingly on Wednesday night, when the Ibérica Group, majority shareholder of CD Toledo, presented its macro-project in the town of Layos, completed and renovated in three months, next to the golf course. This socio-sports space includes a swimming pool, a 7-a-side football pitch, a beach soccer field, paddle and tennis courts, as well as a children’s playground (swings, inflatable castles, water towers, bumpers, etc.).

To this must be added a high-level catering area with three different offers at affordable prices, as well as leisure and rest areas, without forgetting that you can play golf on the adjacent course built in 2001 by its owner at the time, the architect Miguel de Oriol e Ibarra.

All of these facilities have been open to the general public for two months now, although CD Toledo subscribers enjoy other benefits. All this data was explained in his parliament to the large audience present at the event by the general director of the Toledo club, Ricardo Mingorance.

The greatest is yet to come

However, and in a very exclusive manner, Mingorance itself then announced that the Ibérica Group had acquired an additional eight thousand square metres in the same area where it would build, among other projects, an artificial turf football pitch and a battery of cottages-bungalows for rural tourism, also thinking of the proximity of Puy du Fou.

The works are about to begin and are expected to be completed in March. The official procedures for the launch of this new large-scale project have been fast, as highlighted by the mayor of Layos, Gonzalo García González, who added that “We are delighted that CD Toledo is coming to our city; it will give visibility to our municipality. The fact that the Toledo team has the idea of establishing its grassroots football in Layos will bring economic growth for us. From the first moment we started talking about these great projects, we realized that the agreements would soon arrive. Glad that they are already our neighbors.

For his part, Fernando Núñez Rebolo, honorary president of Grupo Ibérica, clarified in a few brief words that “our idea is that Toledo is not just a football club, we want it to be an entity that also lives the social aspect with its people.” , thinking that boys and girls will soon begin to naturally feel emotion and attachment to a color, such as green. That is why we have created this Club Layos Toledo, so that they can be trained as good people in our environment. “Football is not just about goals, but there are other aspects that we must take care of.”

The event was closed by Joaquín Sánchez-Garrido, president of CD Toledo, who stated at the outset that “we arrived in Layos because it is a city in our province and CD Toledo is not exclusive to the capital. And in this regard, I assure you that forty-three percent of our club’s subscribers are not residents of Toledo. And he added that “it is known that Toledo has a deficit of sports facilities and that is where our talent goes”. The children of Toledo who have the qualities to become footballers of a certain level go to Madrid, 70 kilometers away, where the youth teams of four first division teams are located. Here in Layos we are going to work on our future grassroots football and thus put an end to the problems we have with the only annex of the Salto del Caballo. These facilities in Layos belong to Grupo Ibérica, although we are going to manage them from CD Toledo.

Representing the Toledo City Council, its vice-mayor, Inés Cañizares, accompanied by several councilors, was present at this event. On behalf of the Community Council of Castilla-La Mancha, Ana Isabel Fernández Samper, Director General of Tourism, Commerce and Crafts, was present. The Provincial Council of Toledo was represented by its second vice-president, Daniel Arias Vega. In addition, among many other people from the sporting, social and economic world of Toledo, the president of the Territorial Football Federation, Pablo Burillo, was present. On behalf of CD Toledo, their coach Alfredo Santaelena was present; their sports director Rubén Ramos; and four of their footballers: Kupen, Chupi, Pepe Delgado and Piochi.
