Our colleague Laura Olías received the IEE Prize for Best Young Economic Journalist, awarded by the Institute for Economic Studies (IEE). The jury appreciated “his professionalism and the rigor of all his information”.
Olías holds a double degree in journalism and audiovisual communication at the Carlos III University of Madrid. He started his career at elDiario.es ten years ago, where he worked in sections such as Society, dealing with social issues, and Desalambre, specializing in human rights.
Since 2018, he has written on issues of work, pensions, inequality and poverty in the Economy section of this media. She was nominated for the 2018 European Press Prize as part of elDiario.es’ “Tierra Esclava” coverage.
The other winners are the former governor of the Bank of Spain Pablo Hernández de Cos for his professional career in the economic field; Carlos Segovia, from El Mundo, as best economic journalist; and Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President of the European Commission, as special prize.
The jury, under the honorary presidency of Antonio Garamendi, president of CEOE, and Íñigo Fernández de Mesa, vice-president of CEOE and president of the IEE and the Prize Jury, deliberated on the applications presented by the Jury for the four categories that make up the IEE Awards (professional career, best economic journalist, best young journalist and special prize). The jury was composed of Fátima Báñez; the president of the AEB, Alejandra Kindelán; UNESPA President Mirenchu del Valle; the vice president of Banco Santander, Juan Manuel Cendoya Méndez de Vigo; CEOE Secretary General, José Alberto González-Ruiz; the president of AELEC, Marina Serrano; the CEO of BNP Paribas Personal Finance Spain, María Ruiz Manahan; Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Makro, José María García-Agulló; the director of corporate communications of Airbus Spain, Francisco Javier Salido Colodrón; the president of AEGGA, Fernando Jesús Santiago Ollero; the president of the Signaturit Group, Sergio Ruiz; the director of institutional relations of CE Consulting, Ana Mato Adrover, the head of communications of JTI, María Casado Lopidana, the president of Dircom, Miguel López Quesada; the dean of the College of Economists of Madrid, Amelia Pérez; and the president of the General Council of Economists, Valentín Pich. The secretaries of the jury were the general director of the IEE, Gregorio Izquierdo; and the Director of Communication, Institutional Relations and Sustainable Development of the CEOE, Carmen Alsina.
